You’re Not the Main Character (And That’s Actually Good News)

High school has trained you to believe that everything rises or falls on you.
Your leadership. Your GPA. Your involvement. Your ability to hold it all together.

But one of the most freeing lessons Aubrey shared from her story is this:
you were never the mission — you were invited into it.

In high school, Aubrey poured herself into leadership, FCA, student government, church… all good things. But what shifted her perspective was a simple phrase her mentor repeated for years:
“Lead like you’re leaving.”

That phrase quietly dismantles the pressure to be everything. It reminds you that God’s work doesn’t hinge on your presence — it continues through your obedience.

As you prepare for college, this matters more than you realize. You’re going to leave behind roles, routines, and identities that once defined you. And if you believe those things were the point, leaving will feel like loss. But if you understand they were temporary assignments, you can release them with open hands.

College isn’t about reinventing yourself — it’s about trusting God enough to step into what’s next without gripping what’s now.

You don’t have to control the future.
You don’t have to be essential.
You just have to be willing.

And willingness? God can do a lot with that.
