One of the biggest myths about college is that friendships automatically happen.
The reality is that community usually requires intentionality.
When you arrive on campus, you’ll be surrounded by thousands of students. Yet many freshmen still experience loneliness during their first semester because meaningful relationships take time to build. The students who often find strong community are the ones who choose to get involved, attend events, join groups, and continue showing up even when they feel uncomfortable.
The good news is that you don’t have to have everything figured out on day one. You don’t need a perfect friend group during the first week of classes. Building relationships takes time.
Instead of focusing on finding your best friends immediately, focus on taking small steps. Attend the event. Join the Bible study. Introduce yourself. Have one conversation at a time.
As you explore different Campus Ministry Spotlight episodes this summer, remember that every ministry offers opportunities for connection. The key is being willing to step into those opportunities when they come.
